Ashwini is the 1st of the 27 Nakshatras. The ruling planet of Ashwini is Ketu, the South Node of the Moon. The first two degrees of Ashwini are in the Gandanta Zone, a special sensitive zone that occurs at each of the transitions from Water Sign to fire Sign: in Ashwini’s case the transition from Pisces to Aries. Ashwini springs out of the Void full of panic, full of knowledge that this material realm is not the full reality, hence Ashwini’s rulership by Ketu.
Ashwini’s Symbol is: Horse’s head.
Ashwini’s Deities are: Ashwini Kumaras – Dasra and Nasatya; the horse-headed twins, the divine physicians.
Ashwini occupies 0° – 13°20′ of Mesha or Vedic Aries.
Ashwinis are pioneers, innovators and explorers. They are heroic, courageous, restless, impatient, full of zest for life and with a strong desire to be of healing service.
But negatively they are hyper-driven, hurtfully impatient, inconsiderate and irresponsible.
N.B. The Ashwini key theme is to learn to be the Horse Tamer, not the spooked horse!
They have a danger of rushing into relationships that could destroy them, and to which their family may well be opposed, and they can only be lucky to escape these relationships later on.
They are prone to injuries through rushing about, especially ankles.
Ashwinis are natural healers and they also put a halt to the ageing process and have a sense of eternal youth. A doctor has to be on the spot quickly.  Ashwinis, like a good doctor travels at high speed to the place where he has to help sick people or has to assist in case of an accident.  This constellation deals with means of transport and rapid actions. A person for whom the Ashwini constellation plays an important role, is open to the needs of others and wants to do something about these needs in a preferably quick and efficient way. This may result in heroic acts, and as a consequence in a growing popularity of the person.  In this case the ego has to be strong enough to handle this popularity. Ashwini Nakshatra is very strongly related to Rajas – desire! desire! desire! strongly motivated to fulfill desires or reach personal goals.

The temperament of Aswinni is Deva – angelic; loving and accommodating and its sex is Male. Each Nakshatra has a special power or Shakti, the power of Aswinni allows for quickly reaching things. Its heavenly basis emanates for those to be healed, which results in healing therapies, through which the world becomes free from disease.
