You may be surprised to discover they are quite different.
Some people want to hear statements, and for them “I love you” is the kind of expression they value. But their partner may not be coming from the same place. The partner may feel as though doing kind actions and helpful deeds are the best way to show love. Still other people may need to have tactile expressions such as hugs to know that they are loved.
In this way people who genuinely care about each other may feel misunderstood and or not valued, when in fact their partner does care.
The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman is a classic book that explains how and why folks need to figure out their own love language. Getting clear about this and sharing the information with a partner can make a huge difference in a relationship.
