When you talk with people these days much of what you hear is about the Covid virus, worry about financial security, worry about crime, and fears about the planet.
This is a time of hugely accelerated spiritual change as well as massive technological change, all at the same time.
It is a fact that every adjustment you make to a new circumstance creates a certain amount of stress. The process of adaptation to a new circumstance is just plain stressful. Physicians know that mega stress may lead to physical illness, a direct result of our mind and our body working together.
Times of accelerated change bring both chaos and fear up in our emotions. The chaos is all the change, and the fear is that we won’t be able to adapt and stay safe in the new situation.
This is the point at which many people, from frustration and anxiety, start to look for someone else to blame. We can blame our families, our government, our bosses and so on.
The trouble with this is that it doesn’t help in the long run, as you still feel out of control as things continue to shift That “out-of-control” feeling just continues to ramp up.
Our job these days is to monitor our own thoughts and become aware if we are falling into the trap of a constant level of worry. That’s hard to do, but it is the best way to get through this year to come.
Notice if you are obsessively worrying, wrench your mind away from it and focus on anything that’s pleasant.
You may have to practice this over and over but it will pay off: you will feel better and more relaxed.
Human beings are amazingly adaptable creatures and the world is not ending, though it is transforming.
More and more light is pouring onto the planet and into us, and things will improve.
