Great News – I got the job! Hypnotherapy helps people shine…

Here’s an impressive post from Maggie Pashley about Hypnotherapy: Maggie Blog armsoutstretchedAs a therapist it’s always uplifting to receive feedback like the two I received recently from a hypnotherapy client who had been nervous about a job interview . The first one read ‘The interview went very well and I was very calm during my presentation , thank you ever so much for your help’ followed shortly by ‘I got offered the job and am very pleased and relieved. Thank you so much for all your help. I wouldn’t hesitate to use you again’.

Hypnotherapy didn’t get the job for my client. He got it on his own merit. He was skilled,  very experienced, on the ball and had excellent people skills. I would have given him the job! However, his nerves nearly got the better of him. He wasn’t sleeping well in the run up to this important interview and he kept imagining the presentation he had to do going wrong  (a case of self-hypnosis working against you!!).

So what changed and what allowed him to actually enjoy the interview and do his best at the various stages of what was a very thorough and potentially challenging interview?

Well, first of all, I showed him a simple tapping routine called EFT which is great for calming nerves. I got him to imagine doing the interview and check  what happened in his body – tightness in chest, nervousness in stomach and then we began tapping. The nerves came down even while imagining the same scenario. He now had a new stress relieving tool he could use in any situation.

Then we moved on to hypnotherapy. In this case, it was simply a case of allowing him to go into a really relaxed state and use the power of his imagination to imagine himself doing everything easily, naturally, focussed and relaxed, even enjoying the interview. And he did. And even better the phone call saying he’d got the job.

Over the years, I’ve helped people pass driving tests, study for exams, do public speaking and feel more confident in many different situations. Hypnotherapy can’t give you skills and abilities you don’t have, but it can help you deliver the ones you do have more effectively and it can help you learn the things you need to learn more easily.
