Eclipse 15th June 2011 – what does this mean for you and yours?

There is a Full Lunar Eclipse on June 15th 2011 at 20.13 hours.

The essential message coming out of this, is that we are now called to destroy what gets in the way of our true connection to spirit, and at the same time sort out our lives to run in a way that most comfortably accommodate that connection. Think about this!

So the energy of that (for some) testing, difficult, dark moment of Eclipse on June 15th is essentially to call us to our long-term purpose. It calls us to righteousness and to the deeper meaning of our life (Sagittarius) – and we are called to do this by shaping our life to live in the way that gives real value and contentment (Taurus).

The Moon signifies mother and our emotions and Mind/consciousness arising therefrom. Vedic spirituality believes in the connection of body, emotions and Mind (this is yoga philosophy). The Moon pulls us to live in the way that we will be happiest. The Sun, by contrast, is our egoic self who consciously chooses the direction our life will take. The Sun is the driver of our chariot who holds in his hands the reins that steer the horses (the other planets).

Because this is a Lunar Eclipse, it is a case of the Moon (our emotions) being temporarily cast into darkness. This is a horrible feeling, but it is there for us to sort ourselves out and put ourselves on a better life path, one which answers both the call of the Moon and the Sun.

How will the Eclipse affect me personally?

How the eclipse will affect you personally depends on whether any of your planets are caught up in this eclipse.

If the eclipse is conjunct one of the benefic planets in your chart, such as Jupiter, Venus or Neptune, then the results will be good for you (even if it will be good arising out of passing challenge). The eclipse will signify better times on the way. Of course if these benefic planets are in a bad house in your birth chart such as the 6th, the 8th or the 12th, the effects will be more problematic. And if they are in a good house such as the 5th or the 9th the effects will be even better. Aspects cast on the benefic from other planets will also make the effects better or worse.

If, however, the eclipse is conjunct your Ascendant (rising sign), this will be quite dangerous for you. If the eclipse is conjunct a malefic such as Mars or Saturn in your birth chart, troubles will come your way with hard learning.

When will I feel the effects of the Eclipse?

As this is a lunar eclipse the effects will be felt immediately or at least within a few months. Solar eclipses’ effects can take some years to be discharged.

What is the deeper meaning of this Eclipse?

The true meaning of the eclipse is revealed by studying which of the 27 Vedic Lunar Signs the Eclipse falls in (Lunar Signs are called Nakshatras):

The Moon is in the Vedic lunar sign Mula, at the start of Sagittarius. Mula is a ‘root and branch’ energy. It is ruled by Niritti the Goddess of Destruction (not an easy being to meet!). Mula is the sign with galactic centre in it. Galactic Centre epitomises the outpouring of spirit to be experienced in a ‘full-on’, demanding way that you can’t escape. This section of sky is the plane of the galaxy and the source of mystical, creative power. The Vedic and Mayan civilisations place a lot of importance on this section of sky. The Vedic people refer to this as the “Vishnu Nabi” – the navel of Lord Vishnu: he who dreams universes in and out of being. Mula relates to the myth of “Churning theMilkOcean” to extract the Soma from the “root” of existence. Soma was the Vedic sage’s ‘ecstasy drug’ distilled from cacti. It’s about pulling out the weeds from our life and planting new seeds. Our state of mind is crucial to do this in the best way. This is especially relevant as it relates to the power of our thoughts to sprout concepts that will result in actions – and in healing. We are called to rectify our deepest habits, called samskaras (habits formed over several lifetimes). Mula is the mystical source of most basic energy of life.

The Sun is in the gentle lunar sign of Mrigashira, whose power animal is the gentle deer. In fact, South Node (Ketu), the Sun and Mercury are all together in Mrigashira Nakshatra at the moment of this Eclipse. The word “Mrigashira” means “Face of a Deer” meaning gentle or soft. The qualities of a deer – curious, playful, innocent, yet poised to spring off in a new direction sum up how we are meant to now alter our life-course to respond to the new call to connect to spirit. The Sun in Mrigashira will show you the course of action which will allow the root and branch quality of Moon opposite in Mula. Mrigashira is ruled by the God Soma. Soma is stressed again by this Eclipse: the immortal nectar of bliss, in our mind. Mrigashira is related to the search for idyllic beauty. Bring beauty and peace in your life now! You are a Peaceful Being!

Here are a few facts and figures, then some further interpretation and advice about how it will affect you personally:

In western astrology, which used the tropical zodiac, the Moon is at 24 Sagittarius and the Sun is directly opposite it at 24 Gemini. The Earth is caught in-between. But in Vedic Astrology – and this is where the deepest message lies, using the sidereal zodiac – the Moon is at 00.21 Sagittarius and the Sun is at 00.21 Gemini. The two zodiacs are 24 degrees apart. Western astrology is more about our egoic psychology; Vedic astrology states our incarnational life purpose: why were you born? And accurately states the circumstance you will attract into your life at birth and as your life unfolds.

So, in the heavens in the evening of June 15th, the Moon is conjunct the North Node (known as Rahu); the Sun is conjunct the South Node (known as Ketu) as well as conjunct Mercury.

The Moon signifies mother and our emotions and Mind/consciousness arising therefrom, and the Moon pulls us to live in the way that we will be happiest. The Sun, by contrast, is our egoic self who consciously chooses the direction our life will take. Because this is a Lunar Eclipse, it is a case of the Moon (our emotions) being temporarily cast into darkness. This is a horrible feeling but it is there for us to sort ourselves out and put ourselves on a better life path, one which answers both the call of the Moon and the Sun.

Now, as a fuller blog I wrote on this eclipse makes clear, this is not a simple eclipse. At the same time, other momentous things are happening:

1. The Nodes of the Moon have just changed sidereal sign in Vedic astrology. Rahu has moved from sidereal Sagittarius into Scorpio. Ketu (South Node) has just moved into sidereal Taurus. Snake like people could be arising in your lives. A time of deep and intense investigation may be heralded.

2. Saturn is stationary in early Libra in western astrology (Hasta Lunar Sign in sidereal Virgo in Vedic Astrology) – very tough for those with their birth chart Moon at this place in the heavens – these people are in the seven-and-a-half year dark and difficult period called Sade Sate in Vedic Astrology: the long dark night of the soul.

3. The Eclipse is on one fo the three ‘Gandanta Pointa’: those difficult few degrees where a water sign gives way to a fire sign and the energy of any planet there is spoiled (Cancer to Leo, Scorpio to Sagittarius and – especially: Pisces to Aries).
