The Runes are the alphabet of the ancient Norse and the Germanic Peoples. They are part of the Indo European invasions that reached out to India, Spain, Ireland and Britain as well. All the Indo-European peoples had the same god or goddess ruling each day of the week, and it was considered auspicious or inauspicious to do rune Work on different days.
