A truly exceptional feature of my Astrology Readings is that they include reference to both your Vedic Astrology and also to your Western Psychodynamic and Evolutionary Astrology. I explain the benefits of each below.

I do also bring a lot of qualifications to bear, including an MA from Oxford University, and I also hold postgraduate degrees in psychology and sociology.

I feel I am well-able to assist you navigate the spiritual pathways, as I completed a five-year social anthropological field study: An Ethnography of Spiritual Forms new to the Modern West encompassing Hinduism, Buddhism, Paganism, Shamanism, Magic and Occult, and also Utopian Community, and the method was one of living in the communities I studied.

I cross-refer to my wife, Healer Maggie Pashley, who is trained in many Healing Modalities, including Soul Realignment, Future Life Progression, Past Life work, Body Code, Emotion Code, Heart Wall Clearing and many more, see: www.maggiepashley.com

My Readings are recorded, and you can also opt for preparatory reports to be sent to you beforehand. I additionally teach a wonderful range of Foundation and Advanced Courses in Vedic Astrology, see: www.mastervedicastrology.com

In this Blog Post I now set out quite a number of the special features I offer in any Reading. And this post includes showing you sample charts for an ‘example individual’ to demonstrate the exceptional range of techniques I use.

I’ve mentioned that a special distinguishing feature of my work, is that I draw on both western psychodynamic astrology and Vedic astrology. What’s the difference?

My western astrology includes Psychodynamic Astrology which, when expertly interpreted, accurately depicts our psychological make-up, the sub-personalities within us and issues of individuation and wholeness. Modern Western Astrology also includes a dimension of Evolutionary Astrology: a statement of how past life scripts influence this life, and this is evaluated in terms of the psychological results of past live scripts.

Because the western astrology tropical zodiac draws its start position (0 deg Aries) on wherever the Sun is on the first day of Spring, the Vernal Equinox, it is therefore Sun-sign based and is thus declarative of our psychology, of our ‘egoic self’. I include evolutionary astrology in my western astrology reading, and evolutionary astrology of course includes reference to past lives, but note that western evolutionary astrology expresses how past lives are experienced psychologically by us, rather than the destiny statement of Vedic astrology.

Vedic astrology which is far more ancient and powerful, describes our Destiny and our Incarnational Life Purpose, and also the circumstance and states of consciousness that we will attract at birth and at predictable dates in our life, so as to let these destinies come into play as our chosen spiritual learning in this life-time. So, it is not about our egoic self or psychological self, as is western astrology. It states our karmas (positive and negative) from our past lives, all the different circumstances and levels these will manifest in, and also the special sparks of achievement our soul needs to manifest and succeed in our lifetime, this time.

Vedic Astrology therefore accurately identifies the journey of the soul. It identifies the journey we were born to undertake. It describes the physical and psycho-mental circumstances we will attract into our lives as fates for us to work with. Vedic astrology asserts that these fates are chosen with reference to past karmas that have accrued in previous lives. Some of these karmas are fixed (drida): there is little we can do about them: we need to experience them =for a life-time in order to make the growth we need to undertake; other of our karmas are not fixed (adrida) – these we can learn to modify or eliminate or ‘burn’.

Zodiacs:
Western astrology
most usually uses the tropical zodiac (start point 0 deg tropical Aries: i.e. where the Sun is on the first day of Spring).
There is also Sidereal Western Astrology, and I have a colleague how offers wonders using that.

Vedic Astrology, on the other hand, must use the sidereal zodiac (start point 0 deg sidereal Aries which is anchored to a fixed star). If the tropical zodiac is used for Vedic Astrology terrible losses and inaccuracies occur, for example, the Gandanta Points aren’t included, the Nakshatra boundaries are wrong. The wonderful Varga or divisional charts (each of which makes a wonderful declaration about a special area of our life) will all be inaccurately drawn up.
The Difference: As the western tropical zodiac moves a degree every 72 years against the backdrop of the stars, the two zodiacs are currently approx. 24 degrees apart: This is the accurate Lahiri Ayanamsha).

YOUR WESTERN ASTROLOGY

We start with a Key to reading the Glyphs used and your western astrology birth chart. In order to be able to read an astrological natal chart, you do need to have a key to the meaning of the glyphs which are used in these charts:

YOUR WESTERN NATAL ASTROLOGY

The first birth chart shown below that is generated using the Astrocalc computer program. I really like the chart presentation. Note that all the sample charts shown in this blog post are for the same example person:

The second chart below is Psychodynamic Astrology using the Megastar Program: What this program offers includes Chart Aspect Shapes analysis, Nature v Nurture analysis, Alice Bailey 7 Rays, Predictive Age Points, etc. It is all wonderful:

Chart Aspect Shapes

This person has chart aspect shapes in their chart. These are best seen, normally, in the Megastar Software birth chart.

Chart aspect shapes are a powerful guide to our deepest psychological motivations. They identify what parts of our personality work easily together, and which parts are so different that it is hard to reconcile one with the other. In other words, they chart and define our egoic psychology.

In particular, chart aspect shapes analysis is excellent for identifying which parts of us are split off: what parts act as ‘unaspected sub-personalities. The need is to know even the split-off parts of ourselves, so that we will not be driven by unconscious denied parts, so that we will not swing wildly from one persona to another, bewildering ourselves and those around us.

This processes of unifying our Self is called ‘individuation’ the principal method used in achieving individuation is called ‘psychosynthesis’.

Here is an example of one of the chart aspect shapes in the chart of the example person:

Psychic Eye:

Unaspected sub-personality

What stands out in the psychodynamic western astrology chart is that you will notice that one or more of the person’s planets forms no aspect with any of the other planets in your chart. There are few or no aspect lines running from it to the other planets in the chart. The Sun-Venus conjunction is very isolated from the rest of the chart. Having an unaspected sub-personality means that sometimes you may come over over-powerfully with that energy to other people, and yet have no real idea of how powerfully you are coming across with those characteristics; you might feel you are being too weak – or vice versa. But it also means that that energy-principle is unconnected to the rest of you. It is an unaspected sub-personality. You will find it difficult to assess. It could be the tail that wags the dog. It could take over your life. At other times you will be unable to access and connect to its energy at all. We need to recognise and understand our unaspected sub-personalities. This can be done through the method of role-play psychosynthesis. It is linked to the principle of ‘Individuation’ in the psychology of Asaglione.

Nature versus Nurture

However, when we look at the issue of ‘Nature versus Nurture’ in your life, the above statement has to be modified, so here is the ‘Radix Report’ (the person’s Nature v. Nurture statement): The ‘Dynamic Counting’ Table:
Planets in signs are our inherited nature.
Planets in houses are our nurture or upbringing.
This is the ‘nature versus nurture’ debate.
The key and crucial Question is: Who are we: our nature or our nurture?

The psychodynamic astrology ‘Dynamic Counting’ Table shows analysis of the example person’s ‘nature versus nurture’ issues. It is the Table which shows the effect of your nurture on their nature. It shows this effect in terms of the balances of your’ modalities’ and ‘elements’.
Modalities are ways of going about things (Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable).
Elements are qualities of being (Fire, Earth, Air and Water).
So, we can see from the Dynamic Counting Table that the person’s upbringing or ‘nurture’ greatly increased their intuitiveness and sensitivity, looking at the increase in the Water figure from 15 points (by Sign = nature) to 46 points by House (= nurture effect).
We see that the person’s upbringing or Nurture also greatly increased their Fire, but diminished the Earth and Air in their personality.
These variations are to a high and unusual degree, indicating that the person’s upbringing/nurture quite significantly modified their basic inherited nature.
Their upbringing/nurture also greatly modified the Fixed and Mutable figures for the ways they go about doing things. Here is their Dynamic Counting Table:

The ‘House Chart’

Here is the person’s ‘House Chart’. This is the chart of their Nurture as opposed to their Nature (your Nature is expressed by the usual birth chart or Radix). I do find this statement of the effect of one’s Nurture really works:

Note that their Saturn in Pisces is really out on a limb, here, and thus shows that the person could be challenged to maintaining material stability in their life.
And also, the person’s Jupiter-Pluto subpersonality is not strongly connected to the rest of their chart, which means that sometimes they might not be able to easily manifest their power and will, and at other times this could explode vastly, bringing huge death and rebirth situations.

The Seven Rays:
These are the 7 Rays system originating from Alexandrian Egypt, used around 1900 by Alice Bailey:
There is a book on this subject by Helen Burmeister: The Seven Rays made Visual.
N.B. The Nodal Ray is the key ray:

Note: If you subscribe for a Reading with Reports, I insert a many page computer generated Natal Astrology Summary in the Report at this point.

Now, let’s go on to look at Western Prediction:

YOUR WESTERN PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY

The Transits List

A Transit is where a planet in the heavens today forms an aspect to a planet in your natal chart, or passes through a House in your natal chart, or a sign.

Thus, a new energy is brought into your life. Then look at your graphed transits to get an idea of the timing of the bursts of the very different energies.

Progressed Chart compared to Natal Chart

A day in a life tells us something about a year in a life. So, where the planets are when you are aged nine, tells us something about what will happen in your 9th year, for example. This is because of the mathematical relationship between the Earth’s rotational period (= a day) and its orbital period (= a year). This is a robust and reliable predictive indicator. It’s called Secondary Progressions or Day for a Year Progressions. DFY Progressions).

The Progressed Moon takes about two-and-a-half years to go through a sign or house. The Progressed Moon is very good for predicting how our basic emotional drives will show up in the year ahead. Here is the progressed chart for the example person’s last birthday with their natal chart inside it:

So, we note that the example person’s Progressed Moon is progressing through their First House, Leo, all this year, encouraging them to be much more assertive.

Western Predictive Astrology Chart Psychodynamic Astrology:

I teach two wonderful Predictive Age Points within psychodynamic Western Astrology, using Megastar software.

There is an Individuation Age Point which circumnavigates the chart in 72 years, starting from the ascendant and moving counter-clockwise. It is an indicator of the energies we will pass through in our journey to potential individuation, in our egoic psychological unfoldment, learning about all the parts of our egoic psychological identity, and learning how to manage them and fulfill their highest potential. This Individuation Age Point moves counter-clockwise from the Ascendant passing through the houses and signs as it progresses. This Individuation Age Point does not only pass through the signs and houses in your natal chart, it also forms aspects to the planets in your natal chart as it progresses, thus activating experiences in your life relating to your scripts for the energies of that planet.

There is also a ‘Nodal Age Point’ which charts the call from your soul to you from the astral. The Nodal Age Point charts your soul’s call to you through dreams, subliminality, synchronicity, intuitions, impulses and visions. The nodal Age Point starts from the position of the North Node of the Moon at the moment you were born. It circumnavigates the rim of your chart clockwise, thus passing at predictable dates through your signs, houses and in aspect to your planets. Fascinatingly the Nodal Age Point so often declares a similar strand to your Vedic Predictive astrology.

The Individuation Age Point is shown by the black cross in a circle on the rim of your natal chart.

The Nodal Age Point is shown by the red cross in a circle on the rim of your birth chart.

Here are the current positions of these two Age Points shown first for their positions on the rim of the example person’s natal chart (and I can also show them in calendar form):

Note that this person’s Individuation Age Point, stating their psychological unfoldment focus in their life-time understanding and expressing of their psychological self, is now aspecting Jupiter, and it is moving to the cusp of the person’s 5th House, thus impelling the person to expand and engage in learning, and also to involve themself more with children or creative matters.

Note that the Nodal Age Point, which states the whisper of our Soul to us from the Astral, is now aspecting natal Mercury, Mars and Pluto for this person. This is a most powerful call to transform the existential wound to the person’s communication indicated by their natal Mercury conjunct Chiron conjunction (see their Astrocalc Chart).

N.B. NOTE that at this point in the Report, I include an extensive computer-Generated Prediction Report for the Year Ahead, where clients have enrolled for the full reports Reading option.

We now turn to the person’s Vedic Astrology:

VEDIC NATAL ASTROLOGY

It takes more than one life time to study Vedic Astrology, and a full Vedic Astrology natal and predictive reading or course is recommended.

Your Incarnational Life Purpose:

In fact the whole of the Vedic chart describes our incarnational life purpose, but factors we especially look at are: The Lagna (rising sign), the Nodes of the Moon, the Navamsha (D9 9th Harmonic chart) and the Atmakaraka Planet (Soul Indicator).

Your Vedic Birth Chart:

Planet Positions:

Using the 12-sign Vedic (Sidereal) Zodiac:

Using the 27-sign Vedic Lunar Zodiac (The 27 Nakshatras):

NB. Do study the meaning of the Nakshatras where you have planets – See my full Nakshatras and Planets Video and Blogs list, at the end of this document.

We next go on to the very worthwhile declaration of Avasthas:

The Standing of your Planets and How they Treat Each Other:
Key:
To study a planet’s performance in this life, look down its vertical column and read the planet’s ‘raw score’: the black figure.
To study how another planet affects the planet under study, look across the horizontal row from the other planet.
If the other planet harms the planet under study, then there will be two red figures in the box where the vertical row and the horizontal row coincide. The top red figure in this box shows the number of harm points the other planet delivers to the planet under study in your life. The lower red figure in the box shows the resultant lowered functioning score of the planet under study.
If the other planets boost the planet under study, then there will be two green figures in the box where the vertical row and the horizontal row coincide. The top green figure in this box shows the number of benefit points the other planet delivers to the planet under study in your life. The lower green figure in the box shows the resultant improved functioning score of the planet under study.
If there are blue figures in the box where the vertical row and the horizontal row coincide, then the planet under study is not effectively modified by the other planet: the effect just is left dormant or unrealized.

Your Planets as Karakas or indicators for aspects of your destiny:
This is a crucial and powerful tool for understanding our destiny:
AK = the Atmakaraka the indicator of the soul and the self (also called atma) and also our health. Our most important planet. It represents an unfinished task of prime importance left over from our past life. Predictive periods ruled by or involving your Atmakaraka can be especially trenchant and turbulent as our soul seeks to put our life on ‘spiritual course’. This person’s AK or Atmakaraka is Saturn!
AmK = Amatyakaraka the indicator of our advisors and counsellors, as well as an indicator of profession
BK = Bhratikaraka the indicator of siblings and one’s teacher/guru and those close to us
MK = Matrikaraka the indicator of the mother and maternal relatives, and also those who support and nourish us
PiK = Pitrikaraka the indicator of the father (and paternal relatives) and also bosses and employers and authority figures
PuK = Putrakaraka the indicator of children and also our students and followers
GK = Gnatikaraka the indicator of our rivals and enemies, as well as kinsmen and relatives
DK = Darakaraka the indicator of the marriage partner or lover.  This is also seen for wealth and business
Ketu the South Node of the Moon does not represent ‘worldly life’: he is the karaka of enlightenment, the path of the soul towards moksha, which is the exact opposite of worldly life

Your Incarnational Life Meaning in Vedic Astrology

A major contribution of Vedic Astrology is its statement of your incarnational life meaning: why you are here.

This is stated in terms of the position of the Nodes of the Moon in your Vedic natal chart. The Nodes of the Moon are the intersection points in space of the orbit of the Moon around the Earth with the apparent orbit of the Sun around the Earth. There are thus two Nodes: The North Node and the South Node.

The North Node is called Rahu; the South Node is called Ketu. The Nodes are actually demons, because they are the eclipse points and they even have the power to devour the luminaries: the Sun and the Moon, but – because Vedic astrology is Tantric – everything is inherently connective to the Divine: even adverse circumstances, even what could be called ‘bad’, but only if we perceive these difficult states in the right way.

Anciently, the Nodes were depicted as a dragon. The Dragon’s Head is the North Node called Rahu; the Dragon’s Tail is the South Node called Ketu. What is the spiritual gift of these demons?

Rahu, The North Node

Rahu is where we in terms of life circumstances will put our obsessive, instinctual driven energy of ambition. Rahu is the call of our Future. Our obsessional drive can be dark and destabilizing but the experience of it can impel us to see God, and that we are not cut off from God but actually one with God (and one with everyone else).

Ketu, The South Node

Ketu is where in terms of life circumstances we will find that everything will dissolve. Ketu is our past lives and our past life karmas and skills. This experience can terrify, but Ketu dissolves that which needs to die in terms of our need to be reborn and go forward to meet our spiritual destiny in this incarnation. Ketu is sometimes depicted as the ‘occupying army’, i.e. those life areas we have already ‘conquered’ in earlier lives, whereas Rahu is depicted as the advancing army, i.e. those territories we need to advance into in this life.

In Vedic Astrology, the Nodes of the Moon are interpreted in terms of the following four factors:

  1. The Houses that the Nodes fall in in your natal chart. This is the most important factor for assessing your incarnational life purpose. The Nodes are always opposite each other in the heavens, in the chart. Obviously the Houses are time of birth sensitive, so if you don’t know your correct time of birth, counting Houses from the Ascendant created by a wrong time of birth will give wrong results, though one way round this is to treat the position of the Moon as your First House (this can be nearly as good depending on certain astronomical circumstances).
  2. The Signs that the Nodes Fall in in your natal chart. Please note that Vedic Astrology does use the 12-sign zodiac familiar from western astrology, but the two zodiacs are actually 24 degrees apart. Your planets may therefore be shown as being in a different sign in Vedic Astrology from western astrology. The zodiac used by western astrology is known as the Tropical Zodiac; the zodiac used by Vedic Astrology is called the Sidereal Zodiac.
  3. Any Planets which conjunct your North or South Node
  4. The Lunar Signs/Nakshatras which your Nodes fall in in your natal chart. In addition to the familiar 12 signs of the Lunar Zodiac, Vedic astrology also uses a far more ancient Lunar Zodiac of 27 signs, which is an immensely powerful pointer to the true nature of your magical and dream time self.

Our incarnational life purpose is thus assessed in terms of the position of the Nodes of the Moon in your Vedic natal chart, which are as follows in the case of the example person:

Nodes:
Ketu in Aries, 10th House, in Ashwini NakshatraRahu in Libra, 4th House in Chitra Nakshatra conjunct Mars.
The meaning of this crucial statement will be given in the recorded Reading

We make reference to some of your Varga/Divisional Charts during the recorded Reading:

The Varga Charts, or Divisional Charts of Vedic Astrology say something quite unique special and wonderful, each about a different particular area of your life

We also take a look at your planets’ Ashtakavarga scores:

These figures show how supported you are in your life when a planet transits through a House in your birth chart:

VEDIC PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY – Some pointers to your Vedic Prediction

These brief notes look at some of the predictive details in your current Vedic astrology, such as:
Your Vedic Predictive periods (called Dasas).
Your Vedic transits (where a planet in the heavens today passes through a sign in your Vedic birth chart or aspects a planet in your Vedic birth chart). These are transits to Lagna or Ascendant.
The Varshaphal chart (the chart for the exact moment on your current birthday when the Sun returned to the position it occupied at the moment you were born).
Eclipses (see the western astrology report for the dates of these).

Dashas: Your Vedic Predictive Periods

Vedic Astrology uses predictive life periods called Dashas. The Dashas unfold in a set pattern from the moment of our birth. They have sub-periods within the Dashas often called Bhuktis or antars. Note that the Dashas are a unique special feature of Vedic Astrology, and note that they are actually more powerful than Transits for declaration of what will happen in your life.

Dashas are a powerful form of prediction which involves studying the nature of the ruling planet, what areas of life it indicates, the sign within which the planet is found in the natal chart, the aspects made to it, the signs it rules within the chart, and so on.

Here is a Table showing the current Vedic predictive periods called Dashas for the example person.

This Table is using Vimshottari Dashas which essentially chart the unfoldment of our emotions, consciousness and ‘Mind’, because Vimshottari Dashas use the position of the Moon at the moment of your birth to calculate their sequence and timing in your life.

Dashas to one level to two levels (Dasa plus Bhukti or sub-period):

Dashas to three levels (Dasa plus Bhukti or sub-period):

Dasha Analysis: This will be given in the Recorded Reading. From the Two-Level Table, above, you will see that you are in Rahu-Venus Dasa/predictive period.

The Vedic Transits through the Signs and Houses of your Vedic Birth chart

Here is the birth chart for the example person, and below it the position of the planets in the heavens now:
The meanings of these Transits will be given in the Recorded Reading.

From this you can see that in the predictive year ahead, the example person will be experiencing the following Transits:

Rahu (the North Node) is transiting through the Cancer, 1st House from 19.8.17 until 7.3.2019, when Rahu (always retrograde) enters Vedic Gemini 12th House for 18 months.
Ketu (the South Node) will be transiting through the Capricorn 7th House from 19.8.2017 until 7.3.2019, when Ketu, always Retrograde, enters Vedic Sagittarius 6th House for 18 months.
Saturn crossed the difficult Gandanta Zone between Scorpio and Sagittarius on 26th October 2017. He remains in the Sagittarius 6th House until 24.1.20.
Jupiter transited your Libra 4th House from 12.9.17 to 11.10.2018, when Jupiter entered Vedic Scorpio, 5th House. Jupiter remains in Vedic Scorpio from October 11th, 2018 to November 3rd, 2019, except that between end March 29 and end April 23, 2019, he gets into the first degree of Vedic Sagittarius (Mula Nakshatra) for a brief few days: A lengthy Gandanta crossing.
Mars is transiting through the following Signs:
N.B Aspects Created: Note the Signs/Houses Mars is aspecting as he transits:
By Planetary Aspectation or Graha Drishti, Mars aspects: aspects the 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th Houses from himself
Through Capricorn from 2nd May 2018 to 6th November 2018
Through Aquarius until 23rd December 2018
Through Pisces until 6th February 2019.
Through Aries until 21st March 2019.
Through Taurus until 6th May 2019.
Through Gemini until 22nd June 2019.
Through Cancer until 9th August 2019.
Through Leo until 24th September 2019.
through Virgo until 10th November 2019.
Through Libra until 25th December 2019.
Through Scorpio until 8th February 2020.

Your Varshaphal Chart for the Year Ahead (solar return chart)

The Varshaphal Chart is the chart for the exact moment each year the Sun returns to the exact point it occupied at the moment of your birth. (it is on the date of your birth normally, your birthday). It is thus a solar return chart.
This will be decoded in the recorded interview.
Here is the Varshaphal chart for your last birthday, setting the tone for the year ahead from that date. The single special indicator for the year ahead is called the Muntha (shown as MU). It is decoded by its position in both the Vp and the rashi (natal) charts:
