If you’re wanting to understand an eclipse, and what effect it will have in your life, here’s some key questions you should ask.
But first of all, before we look at the key questions: what exactly do we mean by the ‘effects’ of an eclipse?:
Well, the energy of an eclipse is about the release of dammed up tension. It’s like an earthquake that releases tension that’s built up in the earth’s crust due to two masses of rock moving against each other.
So, if you are in a good state in a life area affected by an eclipse, well: the effects of an Eclipse can be wonderful and liberating.
But if you are in a mess or gone wrong in your life, in the life area affected by an eclipse, the effects can be catastrophic, and you will experience downfall.
AND the first ABSOLUTELY key thing is that there’s deep spiritual perception to be learned either way.
And the second ABSOLUTELY key thing is that as with all astrological phenomena, what we need to do is:
a. Use the good perception to understand and recognise what is going on.
- Use appropriate Healing Techniques, whether these are, for example: massage to help achieve calm, wholeness and the needed connection to your true self and where you should be on your life path, now; Past Life Regression, to discover then heal the past life scripts; magical work to achieve clearing or empowerment or sought after change, etcetera.

Here’s my video all about how to understand whether, and in what way, an Eclipse will affect you:
There now follows some note about the ‘head stuff’, the analytical techniques that can lead to good perception about the effects an eclipse will have in your life:
So, to start with, here’s three areas you can check out about an eclipse:
1. What is this eclipse’s nature?
1a. what’s the Zodiacal degree, location, full or partial, period of visibility, etc.
1b. Is this eclipse Solar or Lunar? For the difference between the two, see:
https://blog.starwheelastrology.com/ldifference-between-a-solar-and-a-lunar-eclipse/
If it’s a Solar Eclipse, its personal effects are often more muted, and often more aligned to political events.
If it’s a Lunar Eclipse, then its effects are more personal, huger and longer-lasting.
Check the positions of the Sun and the Moon, the Nodes of the Eclipse, and also the Eclipse Ascendant. Then you need to see if these conjunct or oppose any planets in your natal chart.
2. Next, work out ‘Will it will affect you?’ And if so, how will it affect you?
2a. Check your Planets: So, first, to work out whether an Eclipse affects you, check whether it eclipses/conjuncts or aspect one of your natal planets? This is because each planet is a vital force in our life. Some of our planets are in good standing; other of our planets are in a mess in our life destiny, and we are here to experience that, learn about the key spiritual nature of a planet, grow that planet. There is the perfect Divine Nature of each planet, and then there’s how we personally experience the nature and energy of a planet through the ‘filters’ of sign, house and aspect, etc. There’s some further notes, below, about how to analyse the actual manifestation of a planet in your Vedic birth chart and in your life, below. An do make sure to see my on line presentations of each planet, and enrol for one of my courses to learn this genuine beautiful material: Learn how to read your birth chart by enrolling on one of my one-to-one supportive courses in both western and Vedic astrology:

2b. Check Your Houses: Next, check what House in your Vedic birth chart does the eclipse occupy? This is because Houses are about areas of life.
2c. Check your Nakshatras: The Nakshatras are the wonderful, incredibly powerful and deeply accurate Lunar Zodiac of Vedic Astrology. I have a course to teach the 27 Nakshatras: And you also have to consider the effect of an eclipse on the ruling planet of that Nakshatra, the other Nakshatras that that ruling planet rules. And also, any of your natal planets occupying that Nakshatra.

3. Deeper Analysis: So, how do you analyse the effects of an Eclipse a bit deeper, in your birth chart and therefore in your life?
Well, as I said, essentially to analyse an Eclipse, you look at whether the Eclipse’s Sun or Moon in the heavens, conjunct or oppose any of the planets in your natal chart. Then you definitely need to look at the House in your Vedic birth chart that is affected by the Eclipse. That shows the Area of Life affected.
But then for decent level of analysis, you need to consider the effect of the Eclipse on the ruling planet of that House, and in addition on the Houses in your birth chat that are affected by that ruling planet (The Houses it rules and the House it occupies in your natal chart).
And you need to take into account any of your natal planets occupying that House where the Eclipse is, also any planets in aspect to the affected planet.
Also, most importantly, the area of life that the affects planet is a karaka (natural indicator) for, or a charakaraka for (totally special indications of how a planet will perform in what area of your life, in a way that’s individual to you.
And most certainly, you must consider if the affected planet plays a role in your life in that it rules your current predictive period in Vedic astrology, called a Dasa (and these have sub-periods, each with their own planet ruler).
The Dashas or predictive periods are the supreme and unique predictive offering from Vedic Astrology. They powerfully and accurately declare the sorts of things we will experience in each period. If you are in Jupiter Dasha, for example, and if an eclipse affects your natal Jupiter, then expect big things to do with Jupiter’s nature and his manifestation in your life to be affected.
So, this checklist summarises out as a need to analyse the following seven factors:
Any of your Natal Planets aspected by:
1. Eclipse Sun
2. Eclipse Moon
3. Eclipse Nodes
4. Eclipse Ascendant
5. Your natal House containing the Eclipse, plus its Ruler and occupants
6. The Nakshatra containing the eclipse, any of your natal planets occupying that Nakshatra, plus other Nakshatras with same Ruler.
7. Future Effects: By Item 7, ‘Future Effects’, I identify the important fact that Eclipses leave an area of stagnant energy in the Heavens, waiting to be triggered or activated by upcoming planet events in that potion of the sky.
There now follows some detailed notes on the role of the different planets in your chart, in your destiny, in your life, and in your magically healed future if you can do the work:
Planets: if one of your planets is affected by an eclipse, look at the house it occupies in your Vedic birth chart, the houses it rules, and above all the nature of the planet.

You need to take into account the Nature of that planet. Here are some simple points:
Planets as Indicators/Karakas:
And here is a simple Table of planet indicators or ‘affairs’ or ‘karakas’, what a planet NATURALLY indicates:
Sun – soul, confidence, generosity, power, ego, father.
Moon – feeling/emotions, connection, family, others, mother.
Mars – vitality, focus, aggression, logic, innocence, friends, brothers.
Mercury – speech/communication, skills, intellect, flexibility, humour.
Jupiter – wisdom, meaning, optimism, children, teachings.
Venus – pleasure, sex, happiness, beauty, comfort, laziness, lovers.
Saturn – Lord of Karma, fear, hard work, commitment, stress, isolation, old people.
Rahu – North Node of the Moon: Incarnational life direction this time. Driven obsessions, fears and illusions, attachment, connection to dark mass movements, exaggeration, expanded perception.
Ketu – South Node of the Moon: Past Life, meltdown and suddenness, spiritual light-bringer, dissatisfaction, detachment, solitude, scrutinizing, anonymity.
BUT IN ADDITION, CHARA KARAKAS, must be considered:
Charakarakas make a totally individual statement as to what does a planet indicate in your destiny. In particular, Eclipse on Atmakaraka AK (Soul Indicator) is very significant.
AK = the Atmakaraka the indicator of the soul and the self (also called Atma) and also our health. Our most important planet. It represents an unfinished task of prime importance left over from our past life. Predictive periods ruled by or involving your Atmakaraka can be especially trenchant and turbulent as our soul seeks to put our life on ‘spiritual course’.
AmK = Amatyakaraka the indicator of our advisors and counsellors, and profession
BK = Bratikaraka the indicator of siblings and our teacher/guru and those close to us
MK = Matrikaraka the indicator of the mother and maternal relatives, and also those who support and nourish us
PiK = Pitrikaraka the indicator of the father (and paternal relatives) and also bosses and employers and authority figures
PuK = Putrakaraka the indicator of children and also our students and followers
GK = Gnatikaraka the indicator of our rivals and enemies, as well as kinsmen and relatives
DK = Darakaraka the indicator of the marriage partner or lover. This is also seen for wealth and business
Ketu the South Node of the Moon does not represent ‘worldly life’: he is the karaka of enlightenment, the path of the soul towards moksha, which is the exact opposite of worldly life
The House in your birth chart Affected by an Eclipse:
So, let’s look, next, at the House that this Eclipse falls in in your Vedic birth Chart:
This Table also shows which Houses a planet indicates, and this must be taken into account if the Eclipse falls on that planet:
Here’s just two example of what’s affected if the Eclipse falls in your 6th House or your 8th House, and do look at the general ‘How to interpret an Eclipse’ Video/Blog for fuller detail:
6th – (Mars, Saturn) enemies, debts, health and disease, work and service, foreigners, pets, enemies, effort, resistance to illness, immune system. Our capacity to do hard labour – overcome physical obstacles / enemies.
8th – (Saturn) sex, death, the occult, dark / hidden side of life, longevity, research, destruction / regeneration of any sort. Through the 8th house we confront our mortality. It can determine the ultimate meaning of our lives.
